Runescape treads into WoW territory, or does it?

Runescape is the WoW killer. I'll now pause to give you a moment to laugh hysterically. From a gameplay perspective, Runescape has just gone down all the time. The 'freedom' that players enjoyed in Runescape has been restricted with every update to Runescape over the past couple years. Players used to feel Runescape was a copy of the real world, where anything is possible. But now, there are all these 'rules' and mini-games and fake classic game-type things making Runescape as unrealistic as an arcade game from the 80s.

A new graphics update was announced by Jagex a few days ago. It doesn't even come close to WoW (a game that is many years old now). Also, Runescape will go full-screen (optional) trampling SwiftSwitch and Tiko.

Now, the question persists ... and also insists: Is Runescape just another online game like Bejeweled or is it a MMORPG? Jagex will decide, from a totally business perspective of course.

What do I think about where Jagex is headed? I think they want to do what all the Korean and Chinese game developers are doing: rake in tons of cash by *cough*scamming*cough* selling to players pixels (items in-game). I know when this really happens, I'll refer back to this blog entry, and say, "See, I predicted it". If it doesn't happen, then I'll just forget about this and so will the rest of the world. :-)

By the way, I checked on Google Analytics and realized that about about 100 visitors come here a day. 75% of them come from search engines (like Google), the rest from links (god knows where).

Well, happy gaming!
