Earth Eternal news
I just got word from Zybez that the game Earth Eternal is nearing launch. There are big things in store for Sparkplay Media, the creators of Earth Eternal. They will have to compete with Runescape. Earth Eternal has a good shot at stealing Runescape's very young players because of the furry based characters in EE that appeal to children.
As for the beta, only 100 people have it currently. More will get it soon now that the game is nearing launch - hopefully sometime before Christmas of 2009.

Joining the fray of free online fantasy games, Sparkplay Media is preparing to launch its massively multiplayer online game, Earth Eternal.
The fantasy game runs in a web browser, with no download required. But it also has a plug-in option that allows gamers to play the game in full 3-D. It’s a light-hearted fantasy game that will eventually come with its own social network. The company hopes the game is unique enough to stand out from the competition as one of the more interesting fantasy role-playing games.
The game is operating in a closed beta now and will be launching an open beta later this summer. The download can complete while you’re designing your game character. Although the game will be free to play, players can pay real money via micro-transactions for virtual goods. For instance, they can buy more powerful swords, or they can earn them for free by accomplishing tasks within the game.
You may be wondering why the world needs another fantasy online game. But Matt Mihaly, chief executive of Sparkplay, says the game combines elements of social networking with an action-oriented fantasy role-playing game. On top of that, it tries to bring the best graphics yet to a free-to-play 3-D browser game.
You can also customize your character in all sorts of ways so that it will look different from other characters created in the same class of animal. There are no elves or orcs, but there are about 22 different animal races that players can use for their avatars, or virtual characters. You can also customize the place where your character hangs out: a kind of tree-covered valley, dubbed a Grove, that you can customize as well. You can drag and drop various landscape items and decorations to create your own unique sanctuary.
Sparkplay was founded in 2006 as a division of Iron Realms Entertainment, a text-based dungeon game company. Mihaly founded Iron Realms in 1996 to make text-based dungeon adventure games such as Achaea and Dreams of Divine Lands. That company remains focused on text-based games, which are a smaller part of the game market.
Iron Realms spun out Sparkplay in 2007 to create Earth Eternal, advancing it $750,000 in funding. Sparkplay raised an additional $4.25 million in February, 2008, from Redpoint Ventures and Prism VentureWorks. Mihaly’s first idea was to create a “hyper violent, hyper sexualized” online game like Funcom’s The Age of Conan. But the team tamed down the idea over time as it decided to aim at low-end technology requirements (so that the game could run on just about any PC).
The game competes with a wide variety of popular fantasy games, including free-to-play titles such as Sony’s Free Realms, Wizard 101 and Jagex’s Runescape. Other rivals include Acclaim, Outspark, NCSoft, and Nexon. Perfect World is a kind of competitor, as is World of Warcraft. But those games require much heavier downloads.

Runescape Free Trial
There seems to be some confusion among new players. They think that the Free-to-play version of Runescape is a limited free trial. That is not correct. The non-Member Runescape is a completely free trial which is unlimited. You can keep playing Runescape for years on the free trial if you like. All games have a trial period but Runescape's is never-ending. Pretty good, right?

Michael Jackson is not dead
Just like Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson is not really dead. He was in a coma because of a drug overdose that keeps his skin white, but that was temporary. Michael Jackson is still alive and doing well. His family has requested privacy but nobody cares about it.
Michael Jackson is not going away from us. He is still here. In our hearts and minds. He leaves a lasting legacy and there is one less crazy person in the world. Oh wait, he's still alive.

New gaming site GameRection has 1 million users
GameRection announced today the acquisition of 1 million players from Thin Air Ltd. They will be offering flash games for casual gamers at no cost. The thing that sets GameRection apart from small sites like AddictingGames and Kongregate is that GameRection's games are all fun.

IBM By The Hour

Runescape carting around the wagon
Do you want to sit in a Runescape go-cart and drive around the world? It seems crazy but it's possible. I've done it. It wasn't in Runescape though, it just felt like Runescape. Okay, so there I was playing a game just like Runescape called "Free Realms" and there is a quest that lets you drive a cart. It is like mario cart without the special effects in the game. After driving the cart it got me thinking why Runescape doesn't have a cart racing minigame. It probably does and I don't know about it, but there's a good chance it doesn't. What is your opinion? Runescape Private Servers
Runescape's public servers are too public, so I believe Jagex should make Runescape Private Servers. They can be hosted in random places around the world, and of course allow Runescape players to cheat. I heard a rumor that Jagex have thought about bringing Runescape Classic back, but make it cheatable. So, players will be allowed to set their stats to 99 and punch in the amount of gold they want. You're probably calling "BS" on this so let me explain the reasoning behind this. Runescape Classic was prone to gold selling (real world trading) and hacks of accounts. To avoid these scams, cheating will be allowed. This way, nobody would bother buying Runescape gold coins because you can get them for free in the game! Also, nobody will scam or hack each other's Runescape accounts and there won't be any powerleveling. Why bother when you can just cheat twice as easily.
